Planning a TV media wall with acoustic panels
Acoustic panels can form the decorative backdrop to a TV area. Plan the screen, services and panel layout together so that the finished wall remains practical to use and maintain.
Start with the TV position
Decide the screen height and seating position before calculating panel quantities. Sketch the wall to scale, including the TV, furniture, sockets and any doorway. Compare a full-width feature wall with a smaller panelled area behind the screen.
Support the screen correctly
Do not assume a decorative panel can support a TV bracket. The mounting system must be suitable for the screen, bracket and wall structure. Follow the mount manufacturer's instructions and use a competent installer where required. Plan access to fixings before panels cover the wall.
Allow for cables and ventilation
Keep the television and connected equipment within their manufacturers' ventilation requirements. Plan accessible cable routes and avoid trapping cables behind panels. Electrical work and socket changes should be handled by a competent professional. A media wall containing a fire or other heat source needs a separate assessment of clearances and suitable materials; do not assume decorative acoustic panels are suitable.
Choose the finish and layout
Compare black finishes for a dark backdrop, oak finishes for wood tones, or walnut finishes alongside your furniture. Screen images are only a guide to colour.
Check quantities and edges
Measure the panelled area and calculate whole panels or packs. Work out where cut edges and joins will fall around the screen. Check trim compatibility and retain access to equipment. Read our quantity guide before ordering.
